I am sort of excited about the possibility of a Doctor Strange movie, but at the same time I think the character needs to be updated because it is, well, problematic.

I realized that I like the idea of Doctor Strange more than the actual comic; my main exposure to him was through The Defenders, the Dave Clark Five to the Avengers' Beatles. He's a great idea for a character: a sorcerer who knows cool magic. What's not to love?

Well, there's the origin: a white dude goes to the Mysterious East in search of a cure for his problems and instead finds magical wisdom at the feet of an ancient sorcerer. Oh, and said white dude ends up with a live-in Asian "manservant." Oh boy.

This kind of orientalism was pretty embarrassing when the character was created in the 1960s, but now it's pretty much inexcusable. So... how do you think the movie will deal with it?
